“How to catch a monkey”

Good morning Saints of God, well it’s another Wednesday and this is the day that The Lord has made and I will rejoice and be glad in it.   These past weeks we have been having the discussion about mindsets and the power of mindsets and the role that they play in our everyday life.

As I was writing my sermon for this Sunday’s podcast i became very excited about what God was sharing with me about where mindsets come from, how they are formed and where they are housed.   The Lord told me that mindsets are formed by good and bad experiences that happen to us throughout the course of our lives and what determines whether the mindset that comes from the experience is a good or bad mindset, is all determined by the way we deal with the experience, because the way we initially deal with an experience will be the way we deal with all other like or similar experiences of the rest of our thought life.  These formed mindsets become universally excepted mindsets that govern our thought life until it is challenged by the Word of God.

What this means it that if I have a universally excepted mindset of defeat then it will not be removed until I apply the Word of God to the mindset ( the only thing that can change a mindset is The Word of God, hence renewing the mind or changing your mindset).  It is not enough to just say that your mindset is changed, it must be changed from the inside out (these things come out by fasting and Prayer and the Word of God).

I can remember being in a revival meeting and the evangelist that was speaking told us a story about a mission trio that he went on early in his ministry career.  In this story he talks about a group of natives that had a weird dish that they love to cook and eat.  This dish was monkey brain.  The thing that interested this evangelist the most was the way the captured the monkeys, apparently they would chain a coconut to a large tree and cut a hole into that coconut just large enough for the monkeys to get there hand in it.  They would then place a very shiny rock into the coconut so to catch the monkey’s attention.  When the monkeys would attempt to retrieve the shiny thing there hand would get caught inside on the coconut that was chained to the tree, thus holding them there until the hunters can have the opportunity to come and kill them so they could eat them.  What the evangelist pointed out to us, and I feel is the very important moral of this story is that all the monkeys had to do is let go of the shiny thing and they would have lived they didn’t let it go so they died.

Today’s Action Steps:

Today let’s take an inventory of the things that we are allowing to hold us back.  Let’s get rid of the things the shiny things that the devil is using to kill us.  Write these things down and apply the Word of God and Prayer to the situation and see God move in your life.
